Gratitude’s Ripple Effect

Gratitude’s Ripple Effect

By Annette Petrick

My guest Annette Petrick was inspired for this show by one of my favorite topics—gratitude.

Use the audio player below to listen to her 90-second episode.

Being thankful brings joy into your life. Ask anyone who gives thanks frequently or fervently. Today’s Consider This show was written from my heart, as a person who does not let 24 hours go by without giving thanks – to the people in my life, to strangers and to God.

My first gratitude is to have been born in this great country where freedom and law and order allow us to live life well. With all the rancor being expressed politically these days, it can be easy to forget the peace and civil liberties we have that are missing in so many places in the world. Let’s give thanks for the compassion and generosity of our citizens and our government.

As you consider gratitude, think about what YOU could do today, to make someone else grateful. It could be a kind word, a compliment, recognition of a job well done, paying the toll for the car behind you, delivering a pot of homemade soup to someone who is hungry of body or spending time with someone who is hungry of spirit.

What a wonderful goal, to be someone today for whom someone else is thankful.  God bless you.

Wonderful attitude. I am generally happy, I think it’s because I am thankful. So I’m thankful I’m thankful. 🙂

I know exactly what you mean, Lois — gratitude seems to come more easily for some than others, and I’m also grateful that I tend to be grateful :-).

      Thanks so much for sharing!

I am truly thankful for so many wonderful people in my life beginning with my beautiful wife of 8 years, Sarah. I was raised to “count my blessings” every day. I try not to overlook them, especially when times are hard. Thank you Elizabeth for sharing.

Andy, you are certainly one of the people in my life for whom I am thankful — not the least of which is because you love my sister and her children so much.

It’s interesting and true, I think, that counting our blessings when times are hard is the MOST important time to do it.
Thanks so much for reflecting and sharing!
