The following is a benediction, or blessing, given at the closing Eucharist of the 2010 convention of the Diocese of Maine, and based on the words of Henri Frederic Amiel (1821-1881). It was introduced to our congregation by The Very Rev. Alexander D. MacPhail. I encourage you to memorize it so you can pull it out whenever you need to remember its beautiful message…

Life is short,
And we do not have much time
to gladden the hearts of those who
make the journey with us.
So… be swift to love,
and make haste to be kind.
And the blessing of God,
who made us,
who loves us,
and who travels with us
be with you now and forever.
