Alice, I'm re-reading your lovely comment on my blog. I thought of you often when I was reading the book, knowing you had experienced it first hand. Thank you for sharing this experience with me and other readers.

Thank you for taking the time to comment, Alice. Your statement about "protecting your heart" is something that poignantly describes how we often must deal with disease, aging, and all the other situations that can change our loved ones. It is truly a survival measure, and in truth, it's essential to stay strong and provide the care they need. You certainly did this long and lovingly for your wonderful father.

I've got to get this book. Having experienced this with Daddy, it should be very enlightening. Though Daddy's dementia was of slow onset at first and then it just took off over the last few months, I could follow where he went and talk to him. It was very upsetting to Kerry when he didn't remember who she was but I understood what was happening. I kinda had to remove my daughter self and be the nurse self to protect my heart at the time. It was hard but I think he was happy. It was hard to see him so agitated at times because, as you know, that wasn't Daddy's personality.

Great blog lady. Keep up the good work. I'm enjoying reading it.
